POSTPARTUM HAIR LOSS: THE PROTOCOL
Designed by Dr. Julie Pernet, Doctor of Pharmacy and certified Trichologist

Did you lose a lot of hair after giving birth? Do you feel like it's thinner and more fragile than before? Are you worried about this sudden hair loss? Are you afraid you won't get your hair back?
You're probably suffering from postpartum hair loss. Every morning, you pick up handfuls of hair, your scalp has become sensitive, and you miss your old hair. You feel helpless, less feminine, less yourself. I understand, because I myself suffered severe hair loss after my first delivery.

I'm Dr. Julie Pernet, Doctor of Pharmacy and certified Trichologist. I've supported hundreds of women after childbirth, and I want to explain what's happening to you, why it's not "just in your head," and most importantly:
What you can do, concretely and naturally, to get your hair (and your confidence) back.
What is postpartum hair loss?
During pregnancy, hormones (especially estrogen) prolong the hair growth phase. As a result, hair is often thicker.
But after giving birth, hormone levels drop sharply: all hair enters the hair loss phase (telogen effluvium). This hair loss generally begins 2 to 4 months after giving birth and can last for several months.

Caution: Breastfeeding can prolong unstable hormonal conditions that contribute to hair loss.
Are you losing a lot of hair at your temples or on the top of your head? Do you feel like it's growing back thinner? It's not just a feeling: hair sometimes grows back with a thinner diameter, especially if your scalp is inflamed or poorly stimulated.
Why don't we wait for it to pass?
Yes, hair loss is normal after childbirth. But no, it's no reason to remain passive. An understimulated scalp, an unbalanced microbiome, or deficiencies can slow regrowth, worsen hair loss, or cause chronic inflammation to persist. As a result, you never fully regain your previous hair mass.

Good news: by implementing a comprehensive protocol, you can boost growth, strengthen new hair and prevent further hair loss.
My Postpartum Protocol
Having myself suffered from severe hair loss after my first childbirth, I developed the Postpartum Hair Loss Protocol, which does not just mask the external signs but also acts on the reasons which lead to this fall.

Adopt a healthy and anti-inflammatory diet
Diet also has an influence on hair loss since a pro-inflammatory environment can worsen hair loss.
TO BE PREFERRED:
■ Omega-3: oily fish (sardines, mackerel, salmon), flax and chia seeds
■ Green & cruciferous vegetables: rich in antioxidants, detoxifying (broccoli, spinach, kale)
■ Red & colorful fruits: anti-inflammatory (blueberries, pomegranate, black grapes)
■ Turmeric + black pepper: powerful natural anti-inflammatory
■ Natural probiotics: fermented milk yogurt, kefir, miso, sauerkraut, kombucha
■ Prebiotic fibers: artichoke, leek, garlic, onion (nourish the microbiome)
■ Natural vitamin D: egg yolk, cod liver, moderate sun exposure
■ Hydration: 1,5 to 2 liters of water / day (promotes the skin barrier)
TO BE LIMITED:
■ Ultra-processed products: industrial meals, snacks, additives, etc.
■ Fast sugars: sodas, candy, pastries (glycemic spikes = inflammation)
■ Cow's milk products: sometimes pro-inflammatory in sensitive people
■ Gluten: may worsen symptoms in some patients (to be tested)
■ Alcohol: strongly discouraged (recognized trigger factor)
■ Excess red meat and processed meats (high in saturated fats & AGEs)

Healthy lifestyle & stress management
A healthy lifestyle is essential because oxidative stress weakens hair follicles and lack of physical activity slows down microcirculation in the scalp.
■ Regular gentle physical activity: 30 min of walking, yoga or swimming 3x/week
■ Restorative sleep: 7 to 8 hours per night, avoid screens in the evening
■ Stress management techniques: cardiac coherence, meditation, breathing
■ Psychological support (if chronic stress or strong emotional impact)

In conclusion
You don't need to turn everything upside down to boost hair growth. What you need is a healthy scalp, simple and regular steps, and a routine that fits into your daily life.
And above all: you have the right to want to feel good, beautiful, feminine. Taking care of yourself is not a luxury or a whim — it's a way to regain your energy, for you and for your loved ones.
A balanced, stimulated & well-nourished scalp: it’s one of the best gifts you can give to your hair… and to yourself.
