MALE ANDROGENIC ALOPECIA: THE PROTOCOL
Designed by Dr. Julie Pernet, Doctor of Pharmacy and certified Trichologist

Are your hairline and crown thinning over time? Is your hair thinning and thinning? Do you think there's nothing you can do about it and that it's just a matter of age?
You're probably suffering from male pattern baldness (or male androgenetic alopecia). If you want to avoid a transplant, or simply understand if there are effective solutions, you've come to the right place. Because yes, androgenetic alopecia (AGA) can be slowed down—sometimes even reversed—and I'm here to help you.

I am Dr. Julie Pernet, Doctor of Pharmacy and certified trichologist. I have supported hundreds of men suffering from androgenic alopecia. I have designed a specific protocol with a clear objective:
➔ Treat male androgenic alopecia sustainably, while keeping hair healthy.
What is male pattern baldness?
Male pattern baldness, better known as male pattern baldness, is the most common form of hair loss in men. It results from increased sensitivity to androgens, in a genetically predisposed environment. This hair loss can begin as early as puberty and generally intensifies with age.
It manifests itself by a progressive thinning of the hair at the temples, the hairline or the top of the skull - according to the Norwood classification - and affects more than 45% of men.

What are the causes ?
Contrary to popular belief, male pattern baldness is not linked to excess testosterone in the blood. The real culprit is an enzyme called 5α-reductase, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This hormone accelerates the hair's life cycle and gradually leads to miniaturization: the hair becomes finer, shorter, and eventually disappears.

Is baldness genetic?
Baldness is linked to an increased sensitivity to androgen hormones, with the intensity varying according to family history. It is thought to be transmitted by a dominant gene—it only needs to be passed on by one parent—but this gene is not always expressed in the same way: some people will be severely affected, others much less, or not at all.
Please note: since baldness is very localized in men, it should not be confused with other forms of hair loss, such as alopecia areata, which causes clearly defined gaps in the hair.
How to diagnose baldness?
The diagnosis is relatively simple due to the visual appearance and frequency of baldness. It is based on:
■ A clinical observation: recession of the gulfs and the frontal line, thinning at the top of the skull (vertex), thinning hair
■ Trichoscopy (digital scalp magnification): miniaturization of hair, reduced density, thinner hair shaft diameters in the frontal region than in the occipital region, yellow dots on the scalp
■ Biological assessment (if prescribed by the doctor): androgen hormones, iron, zinc, thyroid

Please note: baldness can coexist with other causes of hair loss (deficiencies, stress, inflammation, etc.). Hence the importance of an accurate diagnosis!
Focus on hair transplants
Hair transplantation is currently one of the most effective options for permanently restoring density in bald areas (gulfs, tonsure, hairline). It involves taking hair from the back of the head (donor area, not sensitive to DHT) and replanting it one by one in the areas affected by baldness.

Please note: Hair transplants do not slow the progression of alopecia: they restore, but do not treat the cause. Indeed, since they do not block the body's production of DHT, it continues to shrink hairs in the long term, even new hairs.

Adopt a healthy and anti-inflammatory diet
Diet also has an impact on baldness. For example, excess blood sugar promotes the release of DHT and inflammation around the hair follicle. Therefore, it's important to adopt a healthy, anti-inflammatory diet.
TO BE PREFERRED:
■ Omega-3: oily fish (sardines, mackerel, salmon), flax and chia seeds
■ Green & cruciferous vegetables: rich in antioxidants, detoxifying (broccoli, spinach, kale)
■ Red & colorful fruits: anti-inflammatory (blueberries, pomegranate, black grapes)
■ Turmeric + black pepper: powerful natural anti-inflammatory
■ Natural probiotics: fermented milk yogurt, kefir, miso, sauerkraut, kombucha
■ Prebiotic fibers: artichoke, leek, garlic, onion (nourish the microbiome)
■ Natural vitamin D: egg yolk, cod liver, moderate sun exposure
■ Hydration: 1,5 to 2 liters of water / day (promotes the skin barrier)
TO BE LIMITED:
■ Ultra-processed products: industrial meals, snacks, additives, etc.
■ Fast sugars: sodas, candy, pastries (glycemic spikes = inflammation)
■ Cow's milk products: sometimes pro-inflammatory in sensitive people
■ Gluten: may worsen symptoms in some patients (to be tested)
■ Alcohol: strongly discouraged (recognized trigger factor)
■ Excess red meat and processed meats (high in saturated fats & AGEs)

Healthy lifestyle & stress management
A healthy lifestyle is essential because oxidative stress weakens hair follicles and lack of physical activity slows down microcirculation in the scalp.
■ Regular gentle physical activity: 30 min of walking, yoga or swimming 3x/week
■ Restorative sleep: 7 to 8 hours per night, avoid screens in the evening
■ Stress management techniques: cardiac coherence, meditation, breathing
In conclusion
AAG cannot be cured, but it can be controlled sustainably with a comprehensive & long-term approach:
■ By acting at the root (products, mesotherapy, microneedling, etc.)
■ By blocking DHT with targeted dietary supplements
■ By taking care of the scalp microbiome, a key element in hair loss
■ By adopting a consistent lifestyle
