How to space out your shampoos?
How many times do you wash your hair per week? And is it true that washing them every day is bad for the scalp?
If you need to space out your shampoos to prevent them from getting greasy too quickly, or simply to save time in the shower, dDiscover our tips for successfully spacing them correctly!
What is the point of spacing out your shampoos?
Sebum is like the sap in our hair, among its many functions it serves in particular to keep the scalp hydrated and to nourish the roots. It also helps clean the scalp and absorb microbes, dust and pollutants.
Washing your hair too regularly prevents the scalp from properly regulating natural sebum production. So the scalp dries out, and to compensate for this disruption, the sebaceous glands begin to secrete way too much sebum.
This causes greasy hair and even irritation. And that's how the vicious circle starts... hair becomes greasy more and more quickly and shampoos then become essential.
By spacing out your shampoos by a few days, the scalp regains its balance to produce the right amount of sebum every day, depending on the amount of dirt to be trapped, external conditions, etc.
The goal: not have greasy hair the day after shampooing, and find a healthy scalp that self-regulates correctly!
Step 1: Listen to your scalp
It is important to take into account that We are all different when it comes to oily hair.
A large part of our sebum production depends on our genetics. For example, people with fine hair are predisposed to having hair that becomes greasy more quickly.
It is therefore impossible to set an identical time between shampoos for everyone. The objective varies depending on hair type and scalp health.
But then how long for my hair?
• For fine hair, the time between shampoos can be set at 2 days. If the scalp regulates itself correctly, this time could be increased little by little.
• People with dry, curly or frizzy hair can generally wash their hair 1 to 2 times a week, then using a very nourishing shampoo to protect the hair fiber.
• Sensitive or flaky scalpsAbove all, they must not be further irritated. It is recommended to wash your hair a maximum of 2 times a week, with a very gentle shampoo.
And obviously, take into account the environment in your hair routine is necessary: wash your hair after a sporting activity, a hammam, a very polluted or humid place, etc.
In all cases, it is advisable to use a shampoo adapted to your hair type. Preferably without sulfates, silicone or endocrine disruptors, with a natural formula.
Recommendations for oily scalps
Although the challenge is complicated to meet because of the unsightly appearance of oily hair, it is entirely possible to space out your shampoos even with a scalp that quickly regreases.
For this hair type, it is advisable to space your shampoos at least 3 days. This will allow the scalp to breathe and take time to regulate sebum production.
To avoid the visible discomfort of strands sticking together, shiny roots or lack of volume, dry shampoo is the perfect solution. But beware : not just any one!
There is no point in limiting your washing if the dry shampoo used suffocates the scalp, all the desired benefits will then be canceled out. Instead, adopt a natural dry shampoo made from absorbent plant powders:
Arrow root, Rice starch, these powders naturally absorb excess sebum without drying the scalp. Combined with fortifying and densifying powders like Kachur Sugandhi powder, the hair will also be voluminous and shiny.
Our tips for spacing out your shampoos
Here are our hair routine tips for skipping a few hair washes.
1. A protective hairstyle
Beautiful braid or ponytail? As you choose, these hairstyles allow you to camouflage fatty roots, but also to limit the passage of hands and the deposit of dust on the scalp.
Hat, scarf and bandana are also clever solutions!
2. Remember to clean your brush
And yes ! The brush or comb you use every day to style your hair should be irreproachable. Remember to clean it regularly so as not to dirty or grease your hair further.
3. Distribute the sebum along the lengths
Brushing your hair well from the roots allows you to:
• Massage your scalp to promote oxygenation of tissues and hair bulbs
• To share out sebum on the lengths to avoid asphyxiation of the scalp and drying out of the ends
4. Dry Shampoo: the immediate solution
Dry shampoo often saves us... But you have to know how to use it well and not overuse it!
Ideal for spacing out your shampoos because it absorbs excess sebum and mattifies the roots, dry shampoo is the perfect solution, especially when you are in a hurry.
However, conventional dry shampoos from supermarkets or sold in pharmacies are mostly filled with chemical ingredients and endocrine disruptors. For what ? Because most contain preservatives and are in aerosol form, harmful to the body and the planet.
So adopt a natural dry shampoo! The effectiveness of absorbent plant powders requires no additional ingredients, your roots will be just as clean and voluminous.
5. Use non-greasy touch care products
To style your hair, it is usual to use serums, oils, styling creams, etc. Prefer care light texture, such as dry oils only on the ends (always in small quantities), and avoid touching your hair too much.
Little reminder : be careful to only apply your masks and conditioner to the lengths! These products are not made to treat the roots, too rich and greasy.
6. Pamper your scalp: but how?
The scalp is the only living part of the hair. This is where you need to start to treat excess sebum. Like our body which sometimes needs a detox with shots of natural products, our scalp also needs to be pampered.
By applying plant powder masks from the roots, the active ingredients act to detoxify and purify the base of our hair.
