Dry shampoo scandal!
The dry shampoo scandal
A dry shampoo scandal was revealed on October 31, 2022.
An independent laboratory has detected high levels of benzene in dry shampoo sprays and is calling on the Food Drug Administration (FDA) to recall these products immediately.
Benzene: proven carcinogen
Benzene is a very volatile solvent with an aromatic nucleus obtained by distillation of petroleum.
According toWHO (World Health Organization) and the CIRC (International Center for Research on Cancer), benzene is classified in group 1, that is to say it is a proven carcinogen for humans.
It is a trigger ingredient for leukemia : between 5 to 18% of leukemias are due to occupational exposure to benzene.
An unacceptable percentage of contamination
Some samples contained up to approx. 170 times the restriction limit conditional for medications.
In addition to a significant concentration of benzene in the product, it has been shown that the air has been contaminated after spraying dry shampoo. Which suggests a potential for inhalation exposure in the short and long term at high levels of benzene, which is particularly dangerous.
Which brands are affected?
We will not mention the brands but you can read the article and look for yourself at the brands and references involved in this article.
